A story you can explore

RouletteScout brings the history and mathematics of roulette into one visual reading experience. Our opening chapter follows six scenes, from the questions around Blaise Pascal to French gaming rooms, the single zero, Monte-Carlo and an early account from New Orleans. Each scene introduces one discovery and gives you room to explore it.

The wheel is our starting point. The people, places and decisions around it explain how a familiar game acquired its modern form. Dates matter, but so does the difference between a popular story and a surviving record.

How we build the story

We compare historical accounts with library collections and records from the places involved. Where an account is disputed or the evidence is limited, the wording reflects that uncertainty. The reading notes inside the chapter add context to claims that need more than a headline.

Our illustrations recreate an atmosphere; they are not photographs of historical events. Interactive diagrams explain a particular idea, such as the path traced by a rolling circle or the effect of removing a zero. They do not predict a spin.

An unfolding publication

The Birth of Roulette is the first complete chapter. Further chapters will examine the wheel, bets, probability and common misunderstandings. The contents panel distinguishes the available story from those future chapters.
